Project Scope: Exxaro will implement an unrivalled value creation project for their stakeholders through the excellence of the people and superior processes by utilising supreme technology that will produce 14,6 million tons of coal by 2014 at a competitive price and SHERQ compliance. The Grootegeluk Medupi Expansion Project is a brownfields expansion of the Grootegeluk Coal Mine with mining to continue from the existing opencast pit while new facilities will be constructed for the materials and product handling as well as the beneficiation of the run-of-mine material.

Project Highlights: ZAR5.8 billion (53 Contracts), measured work was controlled by PCC team peaked on 24 office and onsite staff.

Value of Claims submitted = ZAR1.5 billion and PCC’s mitigated value = ZAR515 million.

Major Quantities – length of roads = 72km, building footprints 9,374m2, conveyor lengths 17.6km, Concrete 145,263m3, Steel rf 18,656t, Formwork 260,187m2, Structural Steel 21,939t, Piping 47 421m, Electrical Cable 813,498m.
